What Youth Misunderstand

From my pov (capitalism, tech-centrism, 20-21st century USA) today's youth has a lot more going for them.

They're more self aware. More empathetic. More imaginative. More efficient.

They were born on the interweb. Their consciousness melding with interest-based diversity as opposed to geolocal-based diversity of us older gens. This evolution has provided humanity with a distinct hockey stick in human capacity within the 3 decades of globally usable internet technology.

An additional improvement for the youth; foresight. The same improvement that has caused significant elevation in general anxiety I believe.

It's a fear not based in it's likelihood, but in how bad it would be if it happened

This meme - what I'll call 'gravitational anxiety' - I believe to be at the root of much existentialism in the western youth, compounded by their increased access, receptiveness, and capacity to bend.

It is the 'curse' of their 'blessing'.

The Misunderstandings

  1. Capacity is not the same as control

  2. Feeling and thought are not yet understood as a species

  3. Freedom is not utopic in its application

  4. Universal constraints are not 1:1 with individual ones

  5. It is easier to do 'bad' than good but not for your life in general

In modern America, much of the youth deals with the existential epiphanies of a foreign existence, in a foreign vessel, around foreign individuals, on a foreign planet, in a foreign infinity. As a species, this is becoming more of a focus than before. In part, post-survival standards (the world getting wealthier) brings about the privilege to ponder.

The west is at the top of that pyramid in regards to an increasingly necessary privilege. As we grow stronger as a species, the chances of disorganized implosion grow stronger as well.

I believe this understanding pokes at the subconscious of today's youth. They yearn for utopia, joyous harmony amongst the planet, and a path toward a better existence. They are yet to see a viable path there however. This is the bliss of ignorance.

USA/acc

An unpopular opinion these days, but I believe the United States of America to be the nation with:

  • The most freedom of movement, behaviors, and opportunity

  • The most diversity

  • The most potential

The United States can be thought of as the world's most powerful DAO. We echo brilliantly "you are your worst enemy." With our potential destruction likely-in-such-a
